Definition

Erythroplasia of Queyrat is an early form of skin cancer found inside the penis , a male reproductive organ. The cancer is called squamous cell carcinoma in situ.

Causes

The condition is typically found men who have not been circumcised. Circumcision is the surgical removal of the foreskin of the penis. See also: Circumcision

Symptoms

The main symptoms are a rash and irritation inside the shaft of the penis.

Treatment

Erythroplasia of Queyrat may sometimes be treated with medicines taken by mouth, including chemotherapy (anti-cancer) drugs and medicines that change the body's immune response. More aggressive forms may require surgery, usually microscopic shaving (Mohs' surgery).
